Edited by Irene Ziehe alongside the Exhibition at the Museum of European Cultures, Berlin (2.8.2013–18.5.2014).

What do young people in Europe at the beginning of the 21st century look like, and how do they present themselves? Are the processes at work in today’s society obliterating regional idiosyncrasies?

Berlin photographer Edgar Zippel made several journeys through different regions of Europe and portrayed young people there between the ages of 18 and 23. In interviews, the young people told the photographer about their hopes for the future, their dreams and their anxieties, most of them however claiming: “I’m not afraid of anything!”
