Christa Sommerer (*1964) and Laurent Mignonneau (*1967) are two of the most innovative and internationally renowned media artists and researchers. They have been working in the field of interactive art since the 1990s and their broad artistic oeuvre deals with natural and artificial life, human and electronic communication, and the involvement of the audience in an “open” work. Sommerer/Mignonneau have done pioneering work in this field, creating impressive interactive computer installations, but also laying a foundation in theory and teaching for the next generations of artists. The retrospective as well as the publication are a tribute to their life’s work as internationally active media artists, pioneers, researchers and teachers of interactive art and shows works from 1992 to 2022.
